Enhancing Hypertension Treatment through Pharmacogenomics

The objective of this study was to evaluate whether using pharmacogenomics-guided drug therapy is better than conventional therapy for lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients in China. DNA samples were collected from 93 patients who first underwent a 4-week conventional treatment period and then a 4-week pharmacogenomics-guided drug therapy period. A high-throughput targeted sequencing panel was used to analyze genes related to drug efficacy, tolerance, and metabolism for commonly used antihypertensive drugs. The results showed that the hypertension control rate and reduction in blood pressure were higher in the group receiving the pharmacogenomics-guided drug therapy compared to the conventional therapy group. Therefore, the study concluded that the pharmacogenomics-guided drug therapy is more effective in controlling blood pressure.
